Kia is set to enter the U.S. pickup truck market with plans to launch a midsize model by 2030, which will include hybrid variants. This strategic move aims to capitalize on the lucrative U.S. pickup segment, which accounts for about 20% of total demand. Kia’s CEO, Ho Sung Song, outlined ambitions to sell 90,000 pickups annually in North America, targeting a 7% share of the midsize market by 2034, positioning the vehicle against established competitors like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger.
This expansion into pickups comes as part of Kia’s broader strategy to grow its U.S. sales to 1.02 million vehicles by 2030, up from over 850,000 last year. The company is also eyeing global sales of 4.13 million units, indicating a strong push into hybrid and electric vehicles alongside its new pickup offerings.
For market professionals, Kia’s entry into the pickup segment could disrupt existing dynamics, potentially impacting shares of traditional U.S. automakers while highlighting the growing demand for hybrid vehicles in a market increasingly focused on sustainability.
